Today, this Star Service flag, also known as the Blue Star flag, is designed to represent a family member in the Armed Forces, either overseas or at home.  Features a red border with a white field and a blue star in the center. This durable flag is made from our 200 denier nylon fabric and is finished with a strong polyester header and two grommets for easy attachment to your flagpole.

During WWI, Captain Robert Queisser created the Blue Star flag design in honor of his two sons who were serving overseas. The flag soon became the unofficial symbol for a child in service during a period of war. In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson approved a request from the Women's Committee of the Council of National Defenses for mothers who had lost a son to sew a gold star onto black mourning armbands which in tune set the stage for the significance of sewing a gold star atop the blue service star showing a family member had died in service.
